HE9 Aluminium

HE9 Aluminium is a heat-treatable aluminium–magnesium–silicon alloy known for its excellent extrudability, smooth surface finish, high corrosion resistance and good anodising response. It is commonly used for architectural profiles, window and door frames, electrical enclosures, furniture, railings, tubes and other components requiring complex shapes with a clean finished appearance.

HE9 is an older British designation commonly cross-referenced with Aluminium 6063, EN AW-6063, AA 6063 and UNS A96063. Because HE9 was principally used for extruded bars, tubes and sections, buyers should confirm the required product form, standard and temper before accepting a modern equivalent.

Solitaire Steel & Engineering LLP, based in Khetwadi, Mumbai, India, supplies and exports HE9 aluminium sheets, plates, pipes, tubes, coils, round bars, flat bars, angles, channels and customised extruded profiles. Material can be supplied in applicable tempers, standards, dimensions and finishes according to the buyer’s drawing, application and quantity.

When Should a Buyer Select HE9 Aluminium?

HE9 aluminium is suitable when the buyer requires:

  • Complex or thin-wall extruded profiles
  • A smooth and consistent surface finish
  • Excellent anodising response
  • High corrosion resistance
  • Good weldability
  • Moderate mechanical strength
  • Lightweight architectural components
  • Customised solid, hollow or semi-hollow profiles

HE9 is generally preferred over HE30 when profile complexity, appearance and anodising quality are more important than maximum structural strength.

HE9 vs HE30 Aluminium

Selection Factor HE9 Aluminium HE30 Aluminium
Common Modern Grade 6063 6082
Primary Advantage Extrudability and surface finish Higher mechanical strength
Profile Complexity Excellent Good
Decorative Anodising Excellent Good, but appearance requires evaluation
Corrosion Resistance Excellent Very good
Machinability Fair to good Good
Structural Strength Moderate Higher
Typical Use Architectural and decorative profiles Structural and machined components

The final selection should be based on the component drawing, load, wall thickness, surface finish, fabrication process and governing material standard.

Important Buyer Check: HE9 or 6063?

When an older drawing specifies HE9, confirm:

  • Whether EN AW-6063 or AA 6063 is permitted
  • Required product form
  • Required temper—T4, T5, T6 or another condition
  • Minimum tensile and proof strength
  • Profile dimensions and wall thickness
  • Dimensional and straightness tolerances
  • Anodising colour and coating thickness
  • Powder-coating specification, if applicable
  • Surface-finish acceptance criteria
  • Whether the component will be welded or bent
  • Required inspection and material documentation

This verification helps prevent supplying the correct alloy family in the wrong temper, finish or dimensional standard.
