Stainless steel blocks are solid square or rectangular metal sections used for machining, tooling, mould bases, dies, valve parts, pump components, equipment bases and customised engineering parts. They may be cut from stainless steel plates or solid bars, or supplied as forged blocks when specifically required by the buyer.

The standard must match the original material form. A block cut from ASTM A240 plate remains plate material; it should not be described as a forging unless it was genuinely produced and certified as a forged product.
